What is U3A?

U3A stands fot The University of the Third Age. Don't be alarmed by the term university! It's not a university in the modern sense of the word. It's more a learning cooperative for people who regard their retirement as an opportunity to improve their knowledge of subjects which interest them. There are well over 600 U3As in the UK and we are the HILLINGDON U3A. Started in January 2001, our U3A now has around 800 members but new members are always welcome.

How does it work?

Through enthusiasm! We have forty or more groups with group leaders, who are all volunteers. The leaders want to share their particular area of interest with you and enjoy leading a group. Some have a lifetime of knowledge and experience in their subject, while others have a keen interest to share with others. Groups usually meet in members' homes or, for larger groups, in rooms in local halls. For a full list of current groups, please click here.

As well as these groups, there is also a programme of visits to places of interest, museums, art galleries, etc. These visits are run at cost without seeking to make a profit for Hillingdon U3A.

How do I know what's on?

One way is through our quarterly newsletter, click here for more information.

You can also come to our meetings on the second Monday of the month at the Odean Cinema in Uxbridge at 10am. Meetings last 2 hours with a short coffee break. As well as hearing about what's going on at Hillingdon and other local U3As, you will hear entertaining speakers on a wide variety of topics. Click here for more information.

How can I enrol?

You can enjoy all the above for an annual subscription of £14.00. If you are interested, contact our Membership Secreatry, Anne O'Brien on 01895 630992 or come along to one of our Monday meetings at the Odean Cinema in Uxbridge at 10am.
